6th grade classes were the only classes that had overall improvement on their Unit 1 test scores from their initial pre-test!!! 1st period went up 8% from their Unit 1 pre-test scores. They were the closest class to their Unit 1 goal of a 78% class average on the Unit 1 test with an average score of 71%. The 8th honors class had the highest Unit 1 class average with a 73% , but had a class goal of an 85%.

Thank you to all of the families that took the time to come out and meet myself and the other middle school staff at our back to school open house and BBQ! I will be posting news and photos here occasionally so that you can see some of the fun we are having at school from home. Your student should use the grade level tabs at the top of the page to navigate to their class's notes, vocab. list, etc. If you feel there is anything I should know about your student, or if you have any questions about the class or the content please email me or use the Remind101 text messaging system (directions on my syllabus).
This week we wrapped up Unit 1 with some hands on measuring and experimenting practice. The kids (mostly) worked hard in their groups and use their communication skills to problem solve with their peers. It was a challenge to get all 5 stations done in 3 days but most where able to stay on task and get everything completed. I am really proud of how well they worked with their randomly chosen groups. Next week we will be starting our second unit in all classes. This is where the real work starts. Please keep an eye on the Parent Portal system to help keep your student accountable for their work (or lack there of). There are many struggling students. I have added a tab to the website with some study advice, tips, and test taking tricks/skills.
I am glad to be back in the classroom! It sounds like many of our families had some great adventures over the break. The first few weeks we had a lot of setting up to do (interactive active notebooks, etc.) This week we have started our first units. Everyone is working on the meaning of science and the scientific method. We will soon begin measurements and conversions. I am fully prepared to hear complaints about having to do math in science class!!! :) If you have not already please sign up for Remind 101 by following the directions on your syllabus or on the correct grade level page (above).
Students must turn in a paper copy of their written report, board, and data journal. if they are completing the in class experiment I am not requiring a board due to the time constraints. The supplies for the experiment will be here early next week. There was an issue with the shipment delaying the start of the test. Students doing the class experiment should complete everything they can in the mean time. Student eligible for the School wide fair will be notified during the break. If I do not have an email for you I will be sending home a note when we return in January.
You will be working in Language Arts class on setting up their research papers. They will be getting grades on the due date in both classes for their work. While they are doing some of the work in class, they are expected to be working on this portion at home as well. Making sure that the due dates are met will ensure that you get the best grade possible and it will also allow you to get your work edited before the final project is due. Keep up the hard work and we will be caught up soon. Once we catch up we can start doing lab/hands on activities!!! It is my favorite thing to watch in class. :)
Welcome to the blog portion of our website! This section is "written" by me, Hershel. It will be pictures and activities that I see happening in our classroom. Look around the website, there is a lot of information here. If you are lucky enough to be going on the Washington D.C. trip updates will be under the Washington Trip tab. Science fair examples, information and due dates are under the science fair tab. Please get familiar with all the information Mrs. Bolam puts on the site. I am excited to get to see the fun labs and science activities that you all will be doing!!!

Hershel says....Students should be studying from their IAN and reviewing vocabulary at least every night to be successful!!!!! That's old news!
